Title VI

What is Title VI? 

Title VI, 42 U.S.C. § 2000d et seq. was enacted as part of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Programs that receive federal funds cannot distinguish among individuals on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, either directly or indirectly, in the types, quantity, quality, or timeliness of program services, aids or benefits that they provide or the manner in which they provide them. The City of Hendersonville complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other pertinent nondiscrimination authorities, and will not exclude from participation in, deny the benefits of, or subject to discrimination any person based on race, color, national origin, limited English Proficiency, income-level, sex, age, or disability (or religion, where applicable), under any programs or activities conducted or funded by the City of Hendersonville.

Any person who believes they have been wronged by a discriminatory act (action or inaction) of the City of Hendersonville or its funding recipients, has the right to file a complaint with the City of Hendersonville. The Discrimination Complaint Form is included in Appendix D of the Title VI Plan and is available in the documents below.  You may also file a complaint online, in person, by mail, fax, or email with the Title VI Coordinator. The link to the online form is in the documents below (titled digital submission). The Title VI Coordinator will assist persons requesting accommodation in filling out the form.
