Animal Services Advisory Committee
The Animal Services Advisory Committee (ASAC) shall assist the Hendersonville City Council by providing input on the operations and policies of the Hendersonville Police Department regarding the enforcement of the Animal Ordinance. This may include efforts such as collaborating with staff on operating procedures or providing expertise and recommendations regarding the Animal Ordinance. This Committee shall also hear dangerous dog appeals in a quasi-judicial format. The terms of the charter shall govern the activities of the Committee. However, to the extent that this Charter conflicts with North Carolina Law, North Carolina shall control.
Purpose
The Committee makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the Animal Ordinance, policies and procedures, and any other issues requested by the City Council. This Committee also hears dangerous dog appeals. Please note that there is a possibility of seeing things in relation to the mistreatment of animals.
Membership & Terms
All appointments shall be made by the City of Hendersonville City Council. This Committee consists of eleven (11) members: Ten (10) members from the general public with various affiliations and diverse background and one (1) veterinarian/animal services professional. The City Manager appoints a staff liaison from the City of Hendersonville Police Department to the Committee who assists the Committee with carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
Meetings
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every other month at 5:00 p.m., unless otherwise noticed, in the Training Room of the Hendersonville Police Department located at 630 Ashe St. Hendersonville, NC 28792.
